Changes to our services

In light of the significant increasing challenges our colleagues across the NHS are facing in London, and the growing prevalence of Covid-19 across our community, we have taken the decision to defer some surgical procedures and move as many appointments as we can to telephone and video consultations.

Our staff will be redeployed where needed to support the critical service provision across the NHS in London

We will continue to offer a full range of urgent and emergency eye care and sight saving treatments, including surgery, injections for medical retina conditions and glaucoma clinics.

We will continue to see those patients considered to be at the highest risk of sight loss in person, in clinic. If we do not contact you, or we ask you to come in for an appointment, it is important that you attend as planned without delay.

All appointments are being reviewed. If we believe that we can assess your condition safely without the need for you to travel to one of our sites, then we will contact you to organise a telephone or video consultation.

What you can expect during a video or telephone consultation

Please read our FAQs, which explain more about what you can expect during your appointment.

Your safety when visiting Moorfields

If you are asked to come in for your appointment, it is important that you do so without delay.

We have put extensive measures in place, including face masks, increased provision for hand hygiene, Perspex screens and social distancing, to help keep you safe when visiting our hospitals.

Our waiting areas have fewer seats to maintain social distancing, so please arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment and enter the hospital by yourself unless you need a carer with you. We understand that you may need to travel in with, or be collected by, a companion, but to protect everyone, your companion will not be allowed to wait inside our buildings.

You can find more information on attending appointments and a number of patients have shared their experiences of our hospitals during the pandemic.
