Moorfields Community Eye Clinic at Bedford Hospital (North)

Due to the increasing numbers of patients being admitted to hospitals across London, the NHS and Moorfields are facing significant challenges. To help protect our patients and our services, we are moving patient appointments to telephone and video consultations. 

We will continue to see those patients considered to be most at risk in person in clinic. If you’ve already been asked to come in, please attend your appointment as scheduled. Please do not come to Moorfields unless we have asked you to do so. We will contact patients as soon as possible to organise a telephone or video consultation.

Moorfields Community Eye Clinic at Bedford is one of our community-based outpatient clinics, bringing expert eye care closer to patients' homes.

Located in the Bedford Enhanced Services Centre (or Bedford Hospital North Wing as it is known locally), our community eye clinic focuses predominantly on outpatient and diagnostic services for a range of eye conditions.

Treatment offered includes:   

Cataract (outpatient and surgery)

Paediatrics (outpatient and  surgery)

Strabismus (outpatient and surgery)

By train

Bedford Midland mainline station is situated about half mile from the hospital and is only a 10-15 minute walk away or short taxi ride.

Bedford St. John's Station is also about half a mile away, but please note that this station may not be suitable for some people as it is unmanned, involves climbing steps to the main road and there is no taxi service from the station.

By bus or coach services

There are numerous other bus services around Bedfordshire that stop at Bedford Hospital. Buses and coaches also stop in Bedford town centre and Bedford Bus Station, which is about a twenty minute walk or short taxi ride to the hospital. By car

Bedford Hospital has two sites: south wing and north wing, the majority of our services are based at the south wing  site (which also houses Cygnet wing).
