Your visit schedule

Routine care (normal NHS appointments)

If you were having cataract surgery outside a study, these are usually the only visits you would need, unless your surgeon felt extra review was necessary.

  • Pre-operative assessment – to check the health of your eyes and take measurements before surgery.

  • Surgery – cataract operation on your first eye (and your second eye on the same day or within 4 to 6 weeks).

  • Post-operative check-ups: around 3-5 weeks after each eye operation

Study-specific visits or EXTRA VISITS will take place at Moorfields Clinical Research Facility, City Road.

If you decide to take part in this study, you will have several appointments as part of your usual cataract care, plus a few extra short visits that are specific to the study.

  1. #1-week follow-up (study-specific visit) - A short appointment to take a simple photograph of the front of your eye to check the position and stability of the new lens.

  2. #1-month follow-up (study-specific visit) - A visit to measure your vision and check how your eyes are settling after surgery.

  3. #3-month follow-up (final study-specific visit) - Full vision testing, imaging of the front of the eye, and a few short questionnaires about your vision and everyday activities. This visit will take up to 2.5 hours.

The table below summarises the steps each participant are invited to attend for the study (study-specific steps in bold).
