Patient support and counselling
Our integrated patient support service provides a range of help and advice for patients who often find themselves having to deal with devastating news about their sight conditions. Moorfields’ patients can access the team by calling 020 7566 2385
The team offers counselling, emotional and psychological support as well as practical advice and information on services outside hospital, which range from help with staying in work to visual aids.
It includes:
- Nurse counsellors.
- Eye clinic liaison officers (ECLOs).
- Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI) team. Contact Moorfields CVI team on 0207 566 2355.
The service provides face-to-face confidential information, advice and counselling for all eye clinic patients and relatives or carers at the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment and during follow-up.
Patients are seen for an initial assessment and then offered further input as appropriate. The number of sessions is usually limited to between six and 12.
Funding for the team is supported by several charitable organisations, including the Marie-Louise Von Motesiczky Foundation, the Friends of Moorfields and Action for Blind People.
Eye clinic liaison officers (ECLOs) are on hand throughout Moorfields to assist anyone experiencing sight loss, or their relatives and carers, to access the support they may need when they need it. View our site specific ECLO leaflets for more information.
CVI registration
Our ECLO team can help you to register for a Certificate of Visual Impairment. Here is a short video from the RNIB about the benefits of registering for CVI.
