Moorfields youth forum

We want your voice to shape how services look, feel, and work

What is the Youth Forum?

The Moorfields Youth Forum is a group of young people aged 8 - 25 who come together to share ideas, experiences, and suggestions about what it’s like to be a young patient at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Our aim is simple: We want your voice to shape how services look, feel, and work

Our patient experience principles

These are the values we use in the Youth Forum and across the hospital

  • Empathy – We try to understand how you feel. We listen carefully and think about your experiences.

  • Dedication – We care about every patient. Everyone’s voice matters, and everyone should feel welcome.

  • Attention to detail – Small things matter. We work together to improve the little things that make a big difference.

  • Proactivity – We look for solutions. If something can be better, we try to fix it.

  • Collaboration – We work together. Young people and staff are a team. Your ideas help us make real changes.

What the youth forum does

As a Youth Forum member, you’ll help us to:

  • Improve hospital experiences for children and young people

  • Share honest feedback about what works and what could be better

  • Explore and design ideas that help staff understand young people’s needs

  • Work on creative projects

  • Advise staff on how young people feel about new ideas

  • Represent young people’s voices at meetings and events (if you want to)

What you get out of it

Being part of the Youth Forum gives you:

  • New skills and confidence

  • Experience working as part of a team

  • Opportunities to speak up and make real change

  • A chance to help shape services for other young people

  • Travel costs covered for meetings

  • Snacks and drinks at in person sessions

  • Certificates, references, and recognition for your involvement

  • Opportunities to take on leadership roles (for older members)

  • And most importantly: you’ll make a difference!

What We Ask From You

As a member, we ask that you:

  • Try to attend at least 70% of our meetings

  • Join in discussions and activities in your own way

  • Respect others’ opinions, even if they differ from yours

  • Keep personal or sensitive discussions within the group

  • Share a few details about yourself so we can support you properly

  • Sign an assent or consent form (and if you’re under 16, your parent/carer signs too)

What you can expect from us

We promise to:

  • Create a safe, friendly, inclusive space for everyone

  • Listen to your ideas and take them seriously

  • Support you to take part in ways that feel comfortable

  • Make meetings creative, fun, and easy to understand

  • Keep you updated on how your ideas are used

  • Provide support during meetings if you feel unsure or nervous

  • Follow all safeguarding and data protection policies

  • Celebrate your achievements and give you recognition for your work

  • Be realistic about what changes we can make - we value all ideas, but we may not always be able to put every suggestion into action

Photos, Videos & Sharing Work

Sometimes we like to take photos or create videos to show others what we’re doing.

You can choose whether or not you want to be in them, it’s totally optional.

We ask that Youth Forum members do not take or share their own photos or videos from meetings on personal social media accounts. This helps keep everyone safe and respects the privacy of other young people. However, you are welcome to re-share or repost any official Moorfields Youth Forum social media posts.

The Youth Forum team will be responsible for deciding what photos or videos are shared publicly. Presenters or visitors at meetings will not be given direct access to photos or videos of the group, unless they have asked for, and members have given, specific consent for a particular project.

Leaving the Youth Forum

If you decide the Youth Forum isn’t for you anymore, that’s absolutely fine.

You can leave at any time - no pressure, no judgement.

If you feel comfortable, we’d love to hear your reasons for leaving so we can keep improving, but this is completely optional.
