Catherine has been an IPC practitioner in acute NHS Trusts for 22 years, her background is infectious diseases and tropical medicine, and she has dedicated 17 years of specialist IPC work to the Moorfields Eye Hospital. Catherine joined Moorfields in 2008 when appointed as the first Matron in IPC for the trust. Over the past 15 years she has established the first benchmarks in ophthalmology surveillance, published papers, presented posters and spoken at national and international conferences. Her interest in the built environment led to her working with the New Hospital Programme as Clinical Fellow in IPC for a year and on Project Oriel for Moorfields Eye Hospital. Catherine is a member of both regional and national IPC leadership meetings.
Amita is a dual qualified Registered Nurse and Midwife who began her clinical nurse specialist career in Infection prevention and control in 2007. Amita has mentored and developed aspiring infection control nurses for over 10 years in both general and specialist services. In 2015 Amita joined Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as their Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse and has since contributed to the wider understanding of infection prevention and control in ophthalmology both regionally and nationally. Amita has presented at a national conference and has presented a poster at an international conference. All these experiences have assisted Amita to develop strong infection control networks and demonstrate her leadership within healthcare. Amita’s academic achievements include an MSC in Infection Control, BSc in Health Studies, Diploma in Infection Control Nursing and Diploma in Nursing Studies. Amita is also a graduate of the Mary Seacole leadership programme and was successful in being given the opportunity to undertake the first national Infection Prevention and Control Fellowship programme. Her passion is to continue to work in the exciting and ever-changing speciality of infection prevention and control and share her learning and experiences further.
Nadine is an experienced and committed Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse who has been part of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2000. She has served as an Infection Control Nurse since 2014, leading on the development, implementation, and evaluation of trust-wide infection control policies, education, and assurance programmes. Her role includes delivering the annual IPC programme, providing specialist advice to clinical and non-clinical teams, and supporting staff compliance with national infection control standards. She has also taken on the role of Lead Infection Control Nurse supporting the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust,
Nadine contributes to the wider healthcare community as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) since 2017, providing professional insight during regulatory inspections. She holds a Master of Science in Healthcare and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nursing Studies. She has completed a range of professional development programmes, including the NHS Improvement IPC Leadership Boost course and the Innovation for Excellence service improvement programme.
Temar is an Infection Control Nurse who joined the Moorfields Infection Control Team during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2024 Temar completed a Pg-Dip (Masters level) in Infection Control. Prior to joining the team Temar worked as a senior paediatric nurse from 2010. A key part of Temar’s role is providing education and training across the Trust to ensure compliance with IPC policies. Temar engages with staff to raise awareness and deepen understanding of IPC measures. Temar also collates and presents IPC-related information supporting the team’s surveillance function.
Temar has developed a strong network of contacts across the multidisciplinary team and seeks to deliver excellence in service by strengthening links between the IPC Team and other colleagues demonstrating a strong belief that ensuring patients are protected and providing them with the best possible care requires us to work together. Temar recognises the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion across staff and patients. This is important in the context of IPC, where taking cultural and religious beliefs into account can help ensure a tailored approach to implementation that strengthens compliance.
In 2025 Temar received special recognition in the form of a DAISY Award for her IPC work.
Carlos an eye specialist for over 35 years and a full-time practicing NHS consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital since 1995. His main areas of interest are retina and inflammatory eye diseases, which encompasses uveitis, scleritis and orbital inflammation, all of which can be caused by infections and by autoimmune problems. Carlos provides treatment and advice for patients with retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusions and macular degeneration. He is also Professor of Ophthalmology, Ocular Inflammation and Infection at the Institute of Ophthalmology, UCL.
