Sobha Sivaprasad has been appointed the new director of our clinical research facility.
Sobha’s responsibilities as director will include attracting more research trials to the trust and providing support to the principal investigators and staff working on our clinical trials.
Frank Larkin previously held this role for 15 years, leading Moorfields through hundreds of ground-breaking clinical trials and he will remain active in research and clinic at Moorfields following this change.
Sobha’s research has had a huge influence on how ophthalmology care is delivered across the world. She is involved in several international and UK wide studies on macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and has been involved in over 50 clinical trials, many of which she has been chief investigator for. She received a £6.2 million grant to work on building research capacity in diabetic retinopathy in India over 50 months -now in its final year. Her work in India has resulted in a policy change being introduced in Kerala, allowing diabetic retinopathy screening to be available to more of the population.
Sobha’s international influence allowed her to secure a spot on the prestigious ophthalmologist power list this year, recognising the most influential women in ophthalmology worldwide.
Sobha will begin this post on 1st August 2021.
