The Power List:

Tuesday 28 March was probably the best day of my 12 months at Moorfields. It started with an email containing the embargoed names of the Moorfields ophthalmologists who had made the Power List of rising stars in the specialist magazine The Ophthalmologist, and it ended with the Moorfields’ Stars event at a wonderful venue in the City. It’s days like this that make me very proud of the organisation I work in and make me remember why I work in the NHS and why it’s always important to remember how fortunate I am to work with such skilled and caring individuals and teams.

The top 10 of the Power List of rising stars was made up of young clinical leaders who are regarded by their peers to have shown tremendous potential to shape ophthalmic care and research nationally and internationally in the future. I was delighted that 50% of this top 10 list included current Moorfields employees or those who have spent time at our organisation. This is a huge achievement and it was an absolute pleasure to write to each of the colleagues currently at Moorfields to congratulate them on this important recognition so early in their careers. It is also important to share with you that each of the responses I received stated that their success was only possible with the support of the team with which they work; the mentors who guide them, the nurses and allied health professionals who work alongside them, and the wider hospital staff who ensure that high quality care and research is made possible. Well done to all those involved and I very much look forward to seeing next year’s list.

Moorfields’ Stars of 2016:

The Moorfields’ Stars event was a wonderful afternoon and an opportunity to recognise and celebrate achievements. The Stars and shortlisted finalists were all selected by a panel of peers, patients and governors. I was delighted to read the stories of all the nominees and winners; people who don’t just do their job well but strive to constantly improve, support others, and always aim to ensure patients receive the best possible experience at Moorfields. I was very moved by a number of the citations and the films of nominators and managers sharing insights on each of the shortlisted finalists. It made me incredibly proud to work in an organisation full to the brim of dedicated and committed people, from all professional backgrounds.
