Android Apps:

Android Accessibility:

You can enable Select to Speak to read aloud items on your screen. 

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Accessibility
  3. Go to Select to Speak and turn “On”. This can be turned on/off via the shortcut: (2-finger swipe up or 3-finger swipe if TalkBack is on), or tap the Accessibility button.

You can also enable Talkback, which is a gesture-based screen reader on Android devices.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Accessibility
  3. Go to Talkbalk and turn “On”. This can be turned on/off via the Volume Key shortcut: (hold volume keys for a few seconds). 

 

iOS Apps:

iOS Accessibility:

You can also use Spoken Content to read aloud text on iOS devices:

  1.  Go to Settings 
  2. Tap Accessibility 
  3. Go to Spoken Content
  4. Activate Speak Selection: this will then show a Speak button when you select text.
  5. Activate Speak Screen: this allows you to swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to hear the contents of the screen.

You can use VoiceOver as a screen reader for iOS devices. 

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Accessibility 
  3. Go To VoiceOver
  4. Utilise finger gestures on the touch screen to operate VoiceOver.
