Moorfields diagnostic hub at Brent Cross

Moorfields has created a new diagnostic hub at Brent Cross Shopping Centre in north west London. The hub, named Moorfields at Brent Cross, opened to patients in September 2021.

The new facility offers a monitoring service for existing Moorfields patients with retinal problems or glaucoma.

Instead of having to wait to see a doctor, the diagnostic hub will take patients through a series of rapid tests in around 45 minutes, allowing more patients to be seen. The test results will then be reviewed online by clinicians who will contact patients about test outcomes, outlining a management plan and any next steps. Patients will only be asked to attend a subsequent hospital visit if the clinicians sees something requiring urgent or face to face attention

This format reduces the time each patient spends in clinic, and the number of overall face to face attendances, making the patient journey more efficient.

In partnership with the National Institute for Health Research Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre and UCL, Moorfields staff will also explore innovative new methods of improving efficiency. By getting more patients seen faster, the hub will also help reduce waiting lists and address the backlog of outpatient appointments caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. If preferred, patients can opt out from these innovation projects when they arrive for their appointment.
