About Professor James Bainbridge

Professor James Bainbridge is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, specialising in retinal conditions such as retinal detachment, macular hole, and epiretinal membrane, as well as cataract surgery. A pioneer in gene and stem cell therapy, he performed the world’s first retinal gene therapy in 2007. Professor Bainbridge holds the Chair of Retinal Studies at UCL and has received numerous awards for his contributions to ophthalmic research and innovation.
