Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

Summary

Moorfields Eye Hospital in City Road in central London provides comprehensive general and specialist outpatient, diagnostic and surgical services for the local population and for those from further afield who require more specialist treatments not available elsewhere.

It also provides emergency surgery, a 24-hour A&E dealing exclusively with urgent eye problems, and pre-eminent research and education capability. Services are delivered from the main hospital, children's centre and private facilities. The City Road campus is also home to our research partners at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

Disabled Parking

If you hold a valid blue badge, or are driving the holder of a valid blue badge as a passenger, you can park in the designated disabled bays outside the hospital in City Road - please check the signs on the bays to confirm for how long you can park. You can also park in Cayton Street (the location of the hospital's main entrance) on the yellow lines where there are no loading restrictions for up to three hours, provided the clock card is displayed and set to your time of arrival.

Congestion charge for vehicles

Congestion charging operates in central London, Monday - Sunday, please see the TfL website for its timings. Moorfields Eye Hospital is located just within the congestion charge zone, the perimeter of which runs along the City Road itself. Both the main entrance to the hospital on Cayton Street and the entrance to the children's centre on Peerless Street are inside the zone and in Islington Borough  as are all the side streets on the west side of the City Road. City Road itself and the streets to the east are not within the zone. Streets to the east are operated by Hackney Council.

Ultra Low Emission Zone

Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year within the same area of central London as the Congestion Charge. Most vehicles, including cars and vans, need to meet the ULEZ emissions standards or their drivers must pay a daily charge to drive within the zone.

Cycling

There are cycle racks in Baldwin Street, off City Road. You can hire bikes in London from as little as £2 per journey and there are docking stations all over central London, and all you need is a bank card to get started. The nearest docking station to the hospital is on Baldwin Street.

Food and drink

If you are visiting Moorfields Eye Hospital in City Road and looking for food and drink facilities while you are here, this page outlines the options available.

On the third floor of Moorfields Eye Hospital you will find a restaurant serving hot and cold food to the public between 11.30am-2.30pm. The restaurant offers a wide selection of food for all, including snacks, main meals and desserts, and catering for a wide variety of dietary requirements, including vegetarians, vegans, coeliac, kosher, etc.

There are several vending machines on the ground floor of the hospital located in clinics one, two, three and four. The machines sell snacks including fruit, energy bars, chocolate and crisps, as well as water, fruit juice and fizzy drinks. Water machines are located in the same areas and are free to use.

Friends of Moorfields has a shop on the ground floor of the hospital,  selling snacks, drinks, newspapers and magazines along with a variety of gifts and branded items.

A Costa coffee shop is also located on the ground floor of the hospital, opposite the health information hub and next to the Moorfields Eye Charity office.
