Jaheed Khan in consultation with a patient

Medical retina

The medical retina team deliver non-surgical treatments to diseases of the retina including age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema.

Worldwide shortage of PDT

There is currently a worldwide shortage of PDT limiting availability. Moorfields Private is hoping to receive a new supply soon. Please speak to your consultant for more information.

The retina is the light sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye that detects light and colour, and acts like a camera film.

The retina generates electrical signals which pass to the brain along the optic nerve. The brain then interprets these as visual images.

The medical retina service deliver predominantly non-surgical treatments to conditions of the retina and they work closely with the vitreoretinal team, who offer surgical treatments for conditions such as retinal detachments, tears and epiretinal membranes.

The multidisciplinary team includes consultants specialising only in conditions of the retina, and nurses and technicians who are highly skilled in ophthalmic tests and injections.

Friendly, helpful and caring staff. Exceptionally professional medical personnel. Warm and comfortable waiting area. I was nervous as to the outcome of my eye examination but my fears were allayed with kindness and attention to detail. All my questions answered clearly and optimistically. Overall a wonderfully positive experience.

Georgia - a better sight-see-er

Georgia - I felt truly well cared for from the start

Georgia was excited to spend a year in the UK but also worried about being able to continue with her regular AMD treatment here. After hearing about Moorfields as the place to be for the eye care in London, she picked up the phone and never looked back.
