Update on our project to create a new eye care, education and research centre
Thursday 27 July 2017
Moorfields Eye Hospital, along with our joint partners Moorfields Eye Charity and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, are moving forward with plans to relocate Moorfields services at City Road and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology to a new, custom designed facility in the Kings Cross/St Pancras area.
On 25 July 2017, we reached a significant milestone on this exciting project; our Land Purchase Business Case has been formally approved by our trust board and supported by our Governors.
This approval will allow us to move forward with the next stage of this exciting project, enabling the registration of interest of our preferred site once it becomes available. We expect this will take place later this year.
At Moorfields Eye Hospital, our highest priority is providing the best possible eye care for current and future patients. To provide this service, we need a flexible, modern and custom-designed facility that is fit to house the very best eye care and research facilities, and clinicians in the world.
Our current facility at City Road cannot provide this care in the long-term due to the age and condition of the building. We hope a new facility will enable us to vastly improve patient experience and provide a better working environment for our staff.
