Theatre 9 Minor Operating Service
Moorfields run a one stop minor operating service.
This is a highly specialised service led by a team of nurses and doctors. We run theatre lists daily, have a reasonably short waiting time and can see patients relatively quickly depending on their condition once a referral is received.
All patients receive a consultation with one of our specialists on the day of admission even if surgery is no longer required or doesn’t go ahead for clinical reasons.
Types of Conditions
Patients can be referred to the service for the following conditions:
Chalazions (Incision and Curettage); Punctoplasty; 3 snip; Biopsy of eyelid; Entropion, Ectropion, Electrolysis of eyelash; Excision of lesion; Excision biopsy; Papilloma.
We have dedicated chalazion lists and can offer patients a date to admit within two weeks of receiving referrals. With more complex cases our waiting times are 3-6 weeks. Additionally we receive weekly cancellations, so we can accommodate and manage urgent referrals efficiently, required the provided patient is available. Please ensure all contact details for patients are current and up to date and remind patients that once referral is received our team will contact the patient directly.
Please send referrals through to the Booking Centre on details below.
You can also get information and advice on eye conditions and treatments from our telephone helpline, Moorfields Direct, on 020 7566 2345. Staffed by experienced ophthalmic-trained nurses, the helpline is open from 9:00am to 9:00pm, Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 5:00pm on Saturdays.
Please ensure that patient’s details are correct on receipt and they are available for treatment to avoid delays.
