If you are concerned about your eyes you can ring Moorfields Direct, our nurse-led telephone helpline on 020 7566 2345. The service is available from 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
The nurse may advise you to attend our specialist ophthalmic accident and emergency department which is open 24 hours a day for emergency eye problems. A&E is situated at our City Road site in central London – see our locations section for directions.
If you need to contact our accident and emergency department out of hours please telephone 020 7253 3411 and select the option for A&E.
Your journey through A&E
On arrival at A&E you will be assessed by the triage nurse and informed of your approximate visit time. Patients are assigned a place in the queue according to their clinical priority and not necessarily their time of arrival.
We are generally successful in meeting the Government target of seeing and treating all of our patients within four hours.
Depending on the urgency of your problem, you will either proceed directly to further assessment/treatment or you will be registered and then wait to see our nursing or medical staff.
Please note Moorfields is a single specialty ophthalmic hospital and we only deal with eye problems in our accident and emergency department. If you have a general health problem you should telephone NHS Direct for advice (0845 4647), contact your GP or attend your local accident and emergency department.
