In addition to work being undertaken by Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust there a number of important new organisations for patient and public involvement that are independent of Moorfields. These include:
The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health
The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health (CPPIH) is a national body overseeing local networks responsible for developing local involvement initiatives.
The Commission for Health Audit and Improvement
The Commission for Health Audit and Improvement (CHAI) is the independent government body which inspects and reviews all NHS organisations. It is responsible for ensuring that patient surveys take place, using a standard questionnaire format, and that the results from these are used to performance manage NHS organisations.
Independent Complaints Advocacy Service
The Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) aim to ensure individual clients have access to independent assistance and support in making a complaint about NHS services according to their needs. ICAS can be accessed through individual local Citizens Advice Bureau.
Local Authority Overview and Scrutiny
Local Authority Overview and Scrutiny (OCS) has the power to scrutinise the NHS and to call local NHS organisations to account.
