At Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust we are commited to involving patients and the public in all areas of our work. Our vision is to provide patient-centred and evidence-based healthcare to all our users. We want to empower our patients to participate in their own treatment and care.
This fits into the NHS Plan (Department of Health 2000), which is underpinned by four key principles of public involvement:
- shaping NHS services around the needs and preferences of individual patients and their families and carers,
- responding to the different needs of different populations, especially difficult to reach groups,
- working together with others to ensure a seamless service for the patients, and
- respecting the confidentiality of individual patients and providing open access to information about services, treatment and performance.
We will work closely with individuals, partner organisations, and the voluntary sector to achieve these aims.
How you can be involved
There are lots of ways you can get involved in the work of Moorfields, for example:
- taking part in a focus group or discussion group,
- being interviewed as part of an audit piece of research,
- talking to staff at all levels,
- representing patient groups,
- taking part in the monitoring and evaluation of services, and
- checking information so that it can be easily understood by members of the public.
