Attending hospital can be a stressful experience for both parents and children, particularly for families travelling long distances. However, advice and support is available.
The family support service
The family support service at Moorfields is here to help families in any way it can, from advice about your child's first appointment here, to discussing with you what you have been told by your consultant about your child’s eye condition, and the implications that may have.
Family support specialists are able to link up with your community services so that you get appropriate help locally as soon as possible. They are also able to offer advice about your child’s education, and help with developmental issues if your child is young and has very low vision.
Information is also available on financial matters, from statutory benefits and allowances, to grant-giving bodies and groups who assist with transport, holidays or sporting opportunities.
Contact the family support service
To contact the family support service, please telephone on 020 7608 3677 or ask to speak to someone from the team at your appointment.
Patient advice and liaison service
The Trust also has a patient advice and liaison service (PALS) which provides confidential advice and support to help you sort out any concerns you may have about the care we provide, and will guide you through the different services available at Moorfields.
For more information please see the patient advice and liaison service section.
