Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the world's oldest specialist eye hospital. We are a world-renowned centre for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research. Many of our consultants have international reputations for their expertise, and are invited to attend and speak at conferences and seminars across the world. A vast number of ophthalmologists (eye doctors) from the UK and around the world have at some point worked or learned at Moorfields.

Patients come to Moorfields from across the UK. The majority of people come from London and the south east for treatment and surgery for relatively common eye conditions such as cataract. Others are referred from further afield and even from abroad with the most rare, complex and difficult cases.

If you have an eye condition and would like to come to Moorfields, you must be referred by your GP or your current ophthalmologist. If you have an emergency or need urgent treatment you can come into our accident and emergency department, which is open 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

If you are an overseas patient or want to find out about private treatment, including laser eye surgery (LASIK) please see our private patients website.
