The Healthcare Commission's national annual health check published on 16 October 2008 showed improvements in Moorfields' performance, both in the quality of our services and in how we manages our finances.

For 2007/08, we were rated as ‘fair’ for the quality of our services and ‘excellent’ – the highest score possible – for our use of resources.  Last year, we were rated as weak for the quality of our services and fair for our use of resources.

Moorfields fully met the core standards element of the assessment, which covers many of the issues of greatest importance to patients, including safety, patient focus, accessible and responsive care and the care environment and amenities.

We also scored very well on the national targets relating to infection control and the maximum four-hour wait time in A&E.

We are now working to ensure that we continue to improve on our better performance so that future national ratings more accurately reflect the high standard of clinical care that we offer our patients, and for which we are rightly recognised locally, nationally and internationally.
