UCL Partners, which includes Moorfields, was designated as one of the UK’s first academic health science centres by the Department of Health on Monday 9 March 2009. The partnership is one of just five bids that satisfied the rigorous selection process, demonstrating that it possesses excellence in research, education and patient care.
Created in August 2008, UCL Partners includes Moorfields, Great Ormond Street, the Royal Free and University College London Hospitals as well as academic partners University College London, of which the Institute of Ophthalmology is a part.
Achieving formal accreditation is a fitting tribute to the ground-breaking work that clinicians and researchers have undertaken at Moorfields, often working together with colleagues in other organisations. UCL Partners will build on that record of collaboration and world class excellence, deepening and widening our areas of expertise, so that we can offer patients in London and beyond even better care and treatment.
